The Lamborghini Of Boats?

Introducing the $1.1 million Lamborghini-inspired supercar yacht, on show at the Miami Boat Show.

Supercar Yacht: Dream Machine Or Ego Gone Mad? -- CNN

(CNN) -- The height of luxury -- or a vulgar monstrosity?

To its owner, this 15-meter, Lamborghini-inspired speedboat is the apex of nautical engineering. A sleek, innovative, gutsy vessel worthy of its $1.1 million price tag.

But others disagree.

When Gino Gargiulo turned up at the Miami Boat Show with his banana-yellow beauties in tow -- the boat and the $750,000 car it resembles -- a small crowd quickly gathered around.

"This is the best boat you can buy -- it's the Lamborghini of boats," says the 48-year-old automobile and restaurant mogul from Miami, Florida.

My Comment: If it is attention that he wants .... he certainly got it with this boat/car.

The 8 Most Expensive Yacht Purchases Of All Time

No billionaire is complete without a superyacht of his or her own. In fact, a November report from Wealth-X and the UBS Global Billionaire Census found that the average billionaire spends $22 million on yachts.

The latest study from Wealth-X ranks the most expensive luxury asset acquisitions of all time, and it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that eight of the top ten purchases were yachts.

Wealth-X uses a proprietary valuation model to assess all asset holdings including privately and publicly held businesses and investible assets to develop their Net Worth Valuation.

Here, in reverse order, are the 8 most expensive yacht purchases of all time.

LoveSail.com Connects Sailors With Their "Sailing Soul-Mates"

Photo: Wendy Robson-Burrell and Ian Morris.

Lonely Sailors Search Online For Love On The High-Seas -- CNN

(CNN) -- When Ian McLaren-Morris named his 12 meter yacht "Silver Slipper," he never could have known it would bring him a real life fairytale romance.

The divorced father-of-two had long dreamed of sailing around the globe with his very own Cinderella; a soul-mate who shared his love of the ocean and sense of adventure.

But finding a special woman willing to quit her job and say goodbye to her family and friends for a romantic voyage into the sunset wasn't quite as straightforward as the 52-year-old had hoped.

Like a growing number of single people across the world, McLaren-Morris searched for love on internet dating websites. Two years later and the sailor was still no closer to finding his seafaring sweetheart.

It wasn't until McLaren-Morris signed up to a website catering specifically for boating enthusiasts, LoveSail.com, that he found the woman of his dreams -- 45-year-old former superyacht hostess Wendy Robson-Burrell.

My Comment: The website LoveSail.com is a smart idea. Kudos to the developers.

Billionaires And Their Yachts On The Med

Billionaires Play Battleships On The Med -- Sydney Morning Herald

IT HAS become the catch-cry of the Cote d'Azur: ''Sacre bleu! Les Australiens!'' Around the luxurious villas and gleaming superyachts of the French Riviera, party planners, maids, chefs, caterers, waiters and butlers are in a tizz as they welcome one of the biggest influxes of Aussie silvertails to converge on the famous playground.

And they want to party.

Already there are James Packer and his heavily pregnant wife Erica, spotted ordering bottles of Dom Perignon at the Hotel Du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes, the venue of their 2007 wedding.

Staying Sane On A Research Ship In The Middle Of The Ocean

How To Stay Sane On A Ship In The Middle Of The Ocean -- Scientific American

The Knorr is a big ship as far as research vessels go – but there’s still no getting around the fact that you’re in a little metal box in the middle of the ocean with 47 other people for a month. Add to that the fact that most people are doing highly repetitive experiments all day (and I do mean all day, people get up at 5 am and work until 11 pm) and you’ve got a recipe for madness.

For the first week or so, everyone was calm and collected. They got up, they did the CTD casts, they worked, filtered, sequenced and experimented. There was chatter and laughter, but it always came in between long periods of intense science-doing late into the night. But the times, they are a changin’, and people are starting to loosen up (or perhaps go nuts, I don’t know).

My Comment:
I rather stay on a luxury yacht where my primary focus is on what to eat that day.

Superyacht Crew School Set To Open

Most of the classes will be taught by long-time stewardess Julie Humbert (right) assisted by Joy Humskul.

Superyacht Crew School Set To Open -- Phuket News

PHUKET: A new school opens in Thalang on June 16, offering courses that lead graduates to a life of glamour and high salaries – working on superyachts around the world.

The Galileo Yachting school is aimed firmly at the Thai market, initially targeting Thai women for work as stewardesses, and Thai chefs.

The school is the brainchild of Brian Murray, who is ex-British Royal Navy and was a superyacht skipper for 25 years, commanding superyachts owned by the likes of the Getty family.

He and partner Alex Wheeler expect to place graduates of their 18-day courses on superyachts, with pay starting at B100,000 a month, rising – for those who become chief stewardesses – to as much as B420,000 a month.

And that doesn’t include tips.

My Comment: This school .... and demand for it's graduates .... should do well.

The Life Of A Superyacht Worker

Bonnie Muddle has been working on superyachts for the past six years.

Confessions Of A Superyacht Worker -- CNN

Editor's note: Bonnie Muddle has worked on superyachts for the past six years. She runs a website giving tips on how to find work on a superyacht. Below she writes for CNN about what life aboard superyachts is really like.

Bangkok, Thailand (CNN) -- The phone call came from my uncle -- a captain on a superyacht -- offering me a seasonal job as a stewardess. Having absolutely no experience and no idea what the job would entail, where it would take me and how I would fare in rough conditions, I jumped at the chance.

Within the week I had arranged my B1/B2 visa at the American Consulate, booked in the obligatory safety course ( S.T.C.W 95), had a medical, packed up the accumulation of goods a girl at 22 owns and flew across to the USA.
